Day Trips
For a fantastic day trip, take the Noosa Car Ferry and follow the bitumen all the way to the coastline and access the beach via the cuttings. Driving on the beach is best suited to within 3 hours either side of low tide.
Once on the beach you can travel North for a bit over an hour all the way to Double Island point and Rainbow Bay. Plan a brief stay or make a full day out of it. Have a picnic lunch on the beach or visit nearby Rainbow Beach and the many eaterys this quaint town has to offer. Either return home down the beach or travel back via Gympie along the bitumen road, making it a great round trip. You can also do the trip in reverse accessing the beach at Rainbow Bay.
If you are going to Fraser Island you can make a trip of it by driving from the southern end of the beach from the Ferry to Rainbow Bay and then driving a few short kilometres from Rainbow Bay to Inskip Point.
Beach Fishing
Pristine beaches and a plentiful supply of pippies make this area a fishing paradise. Whiting and Dart are the main catch during daylight hours.
Bream and Flathead in season. Live worms, prawns or pipies are the best baits. Late evening or early morning is a good time to try for tailor using pilchards, gar or spinning. Double Is. Point also has great rock fishing. (Be careful). Bait can be obtained at all tackle shops and caravan parks. Beach fising on the North Shore can be enjoyed by the whole family but please remember to watch your children around the oncoming traffic!
Sightseeing & Taking it easy
Stop and wonder at the coloured sands, walk along the track to the Lighthouse and watch the dolphins, whales and large turtles, all visible from the magic lookouts at Double Island Point.
Rainbow Beach itself is a magic spot, fully sheltered from the southeast breezes. Upon low tide, enjoy the short drive up the beach and experience what this quaint township has to offer. You'll find many conveniences here including a service station, tourist info, surf and fashion shops and of course plenty of takeaway or dine in restaurants.
